ProjectRISE: RISE Above Barriers

With a quick search on the internet, you’ll find a plethora of research findings describing a correlation between health literacy and socio-economic status. According to information compiled in The Journal for Electronic Health Data and Methods, these factors are “directly associated with clinical and behavioral risk factors and healthcare outcomes.”

Under the support of the Florida Blue Foundation and a $10,000 grant awarded to our ProjectRISE program, The Sharing Center will continue to enhance its curriculum to support families and individuals with the necessary resources to rise above such barriers.

During the four-week program, ProjectRISE participants are provided with in-depth support to nurture soft skills and combat the increased risk factors those facing hardships, hunger, and homelessness are mounted with.

The Journal for Electronic Health Data and Methods states that low literacy rates and education levels are among the barriers communities impacted by limited resources are constantly fighting against, ultimately resulting in a vicious cycle that negatively impacts health and nutrition.

This grant will support our goal of leveraging ProjectRISE as a vehicle for families and individuals on the path to self-sufficiency by living 200% above the poverty line.
